After securing a win in Florida, his second of the season, John Akerman has jumped out in the lead in this year’s point standings. Not far behind is 2016 UST Champion Blair Conklin who also has one win under his belt so far this season.
Interestingly, John and Blair have not met up head to head this season as they have each missed the two events the other has attended. Hopefully that will change in one of the upcoming events! Santa Cruz is coming up quick followed by Oktoberfest at the end of the month.
Perry Pruitt and Sam McCoy are comfortably sitting in 3rd and 4th place but the point spread is tight all the way through the top 10.
This year 4 of the 7 events on schedule will count towards the rider’s final UST point tally. The directors decided on this format to allow rider’s greater ability to be competitive by having the option of attending only 4 events to be eligible for maximum point totals. Simultaneously the higher event count makes it more likely that events will be more proximate and hence easier to attend. So far so good!
On the women’s side, Sophia Nguyen has jumped out to an early lead winning her first pro event in Delaware. She is followed by reigning champ Casey Kiernan in second and fellow young shredder Jordan Sitea in 3rd. Ellen wood rounds out the top 4.
The next pro event will be in Santa Cruz CA Sept 9th and 10th and will count for both Men’s and Women’s points. Best of luck to all the competitors!
